Dr. Manuel S. Hubacher studied political science and political philosophy at the University of Bern and earned his Ph.D. in 2023 with a dissertation on the anarchist critique of the state. Since 2016, he has been working at the Centre for Citizenship and History Education at the Center for Democracy Stuies Aarau (ZDA). His research and work focus on digital citizenship education, argumentation and judgment, and the development of teaching materials.

Toolbox Political Participation

The project participatively develops the «Toolbox Political Participation» for lower secondary education. Through workshops with young people, teachers, subject didactics specialists, and civil society actors, innovative learning materials are created that address forms of political participation and Swiss democracy from a migration-society perspective.

Stories of the Future

The ‘Stories of the Future’ project uses foresight methods and narratives to give young people the opportunity to imagine alternative futures and develop their political and methodological skills. In 90- to 180-minute workshops, young people collaboratively create stories about what a positive future in 2050 could look like — one in which AI systems strengthen and improve democracy. The project deliberately seeks out positive futures, guiding participants to develop their own narratives about the role of technology in a democratic society.
